Konica Minolta has released the upgraded version of the popular High Chroma digital printing machine bizhub PRESS C70hc. The new edition is called bizhub PRESS C71hc and brings refreshing improvements to the previous model.
The "hc" series has revolutionized color digital printing by using the High Chroma toners to expand the color gamut beyond the conventional CMYK to cover the difficult to obtain pinks, purples, greens and blues. The sRGB profile colors have become achievable and smooth skin tones are printed. This was welcomed by the Photo Print industry as now a toner based digital printer could take out beautiful photo prints without making them dull due to the CMYK gamut color loss, As a result, the C70hc became the defacto print engine investment for a less capital intensive print unit / photo studio as compared to the HP Indigo print engine allowing them to compete with the big daddy HP Indigo Users by providing prints almost similar to the 15 times more expensive Indigos'. (That is a matter of a separate discussion and I will shortly come up with a post on how Konica has created the poor man's Indigo and done a brilliant job at it).
Look at these pictures below to get an idea how the High Chroma toners score over the regular CMYK toners.

High Chroma |
- High registration accuracy that improves quality and reduces cost
- Reliability realized by outstanding color consistency
- Enhanced color management
- Outstanding media compatibility for expansion of printing services. Auto duplexing and better handling of thick (300gsm) substrates
Well done Konica Minolta. Let us see how this improves on the previous models and enables more printers to offer photographic color quality at cheaper prices.
